Product Description:

AOR’s NOx Boost lozenges give you a fast acting health boost with energy supporting ingredients. The lozenge delivery system facilitates a quicker conversion of nitrate (NO3) to nitrite (NO2) to beneficial nitric oxide (NO), starting in the mouth. This formula also includes magnesium and vitamin C. Beet, raspberry, blueberry and bilberry juice powders included in NOx Boost lozenges provide natural flavour and colour, and their polyphenols enhance the body’s conversion of nitrate to nitric oxide. NOx Boost lozenges are naturally sweetened with thaumatin, a low-calorie protein extracted from the African fruit “katemfe”.

What Is Nitric Oxide?
Nitric oxide is an essential molecule that has a wide range of beneficial effects throughout the body. Its primary role is to facilitate communication between the body’s cells. It’s known as a powerful effector molecule and functions as an EDRF (endothelium-derived relaxation factor). Green leafy vegetables contain very high levels of nitrates, for example, celery, spinach and beetroot contain over 250mg of nitrate per 100g serving. Diets rich in fruits and vegetables such as the DASH, Mediterranean and Japanese, are associated with good health and protect against disease due to their high levels of nitrates.

How is Nitric Oxide Produced?
Nitric oxide has an extremely short lifespan in the body which means that it must constantly be produced. We now understand that dietary or supplemental nitrates introduced into the body is one important pathway in which the conversion of nitrate to nitrite is possible; this conversion then increases levels of nitric oxide in the body. Nitrate (NO3) is converted in the body (starting in the mouth) into nitrite (NO2) and then into nitric oxide (NO1) through a step by step conversion process.

Aren’t Nitrates And Nitrites Harmful?
Despite past controversy and false accusations against nitrosamine formation from consumed nitrates and nitrites, we now know that both are responsible for increasing levels of beneficial nitric oxide in the body. Diets that are rich in green leafy vegetable are also high in nitrate content. Of course, most people know that diets rich in vegetables have been proven to improve health and immunity and also to extend longevity; this is in large part due to the high nitrate content of fruits and vegetables(2).

The Benefits of Nitrates And Nitrites
There is now substantial evidence that proves nitrates are able to benefit the body in many ways, including reducing oxidative stress in the body, by preventing the progression of free radical chain reactions, preventing lipid peroxidation and protecting cells, proteins and DNA against damage(2). Some of its resulting health benefits include: lowering blood pressure, decreasing blood clotting, protecting the liver, decreasing oxygen consumption during maximal exercise and by increasing blood flow to the site of injury or illness in the body; it is also protective against cancer. NOx Boost contains nitrates to enhance nitric oxide production and polyphenols to prevent the conversion of nitrates into nitrosamines.

Research
NOx Boost’s lozenge delivery system facilitates a quicker conversion of nitrate (NO3) and nitrite (NO2) to nitric oxide (NO) than capsules. While some nitrate is swallowed, about 25% of nitrate is taken up by the salivary glands and concentrated, producing up to a 20-fold higher concentration of nitrates in the saliva compared to the blood. Oral bacteria convert the nitrates into nitrites, producing up to a 1,000-fold higher concentration of nitrites in the saliva compared to the blood. Some of the nitrite gets swallowed and converted to nitric oxide in the stomach, while some of the nitrite may get converted into nitric oxide directly in the mouth. This produces a faster-acting nitric oxide conversion as well as a multi-faceted approach for increasing nitric oxide production.

Synergistic Ingredients for Healthy NO Production
Vitamin C provides antioxidants for the maintenance of good health and is included as a synergistic agent to improve the body’s conversion of nitrate to nitric oxide and to enhance its effectiveness.

Vitamin C is Anti-Carcinogenic
There is a fair amount of depth to the ascorbic acid research pertaining to cancer, most of it on the preventative aspect. Such preventative effects may be accounted for, in part, by ascorbic acid’s ability to detoxify carcinogens directly, as well as blocking carcinogenic processes via its antioxidant activity. Vitamin C can prevent the formation of such carcinogens as nitrosamines in foods and in the gastrointestinal tract. It can also detoxify such chemical mutagens and carcinogens as anthracene, benzo[a]pyrene, organochlorine pesticides and heavy metals. High concentrations of ascorbic acid in gastric juice may reduce the risk of gastric cancer by inhibiting the formation of carcinogenic N-nitroso compounds. Additionally, increased oxidative stress to the gastric mucosa has been reported in H. pylori-associated gastritis, a condition that predisposes to gastric cancer. There is evidence suggesting that both vitamin C and nitric oxide can inhibit the growth of Helicobacter pylori(7).

Vasodilation
For those suffering from hypertension, there is an indication that ascorbic acid may improve endothelial-dependent vasodilation. That indication is likewise evident in those with hypercholesterolemia as well, and ascorbic acid may also help restore nitric oxide-mediated flow-dependent vasodilation in those with congestive heart failure. Studies show that older adults may especially benefit from taking supplemental nitrate, rather than relying on food sources alone to increase nitric oxide levels in the body(4).

AOR Advantage
NOx Boost gives you a fast acting boost of Vitamin C to support immunity and overall health. Vitamin C provides antioxidant, antiviral (colds/flu), anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular and anti-tumor benefits. It supports collagen production for healthy bones and skin.

Market Trends
Vitamin C is thought of as the cure-all and is often taken as an antioxidant, detoxifier, for boosting the immune system and for overall health. The most common types of vitamin C available on the retail market are ascorbic acid, calcium ascorbate (Ester C is a patented product containing calcium ascorbate) and magnesium ascorbate.

Healthy Tidbits

In this century, the world will have more people living into their 80s and 90s than ever before, with the number of people 80+ set to quadruple between 2000 and 2050.

Increased life expectancy is largely due to improvements in public health, and healthy ageing is linked directly to health in earlier stages of life.

Although it is natural for biological processes to decline with age, the rate at which our body’s decline is impacted by many controllable lifestyle factors such as how we eat, how we move, and how many toxic substances we are exposed to.
